Dana FAQs
A few answers.
A little less friction.
From your first message to a fresh start when something gets stuck. And if you need a hand, our team is right here.
Getting started
What can Dana help me with?
Dana helps with the follow-through: sorting your inbox, drafting replies, arranging meetings, planning travel, and keeping track of loose ends. Start with one thing you’d like off your plate.
Try: “Dana, help me draft a reply to Alex” or “What’s on my calendar tomorrow?” For tasks involving your accounts, connect the relevant app first.
How do I get started?
Open Dana to sign in or join the waitlist. Dana is in early access, so you may need an invitation. Once you have access, follow the setup steps and choose a messaging channel.
You can use WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram, or the web app. Use the links in Dana’s setup flow to find the right conversation.
Where can I watch a walkthrough?
Browse the Dana walkthroughs for examples covering voice notes, email, calendar, travel, and everyday tasks. Pick the one closest to what you want to do.
How much detail should I give Dana?
Use your own words. Include the people, dates, and outcome you have in mind. “Find 30 minutes with Alex next week, after lunch” gives Dana more to work with than “Book a meeting.”
If the first attempt misses something, say what needs changing. You don’t need a special prompt.
Connecting your messaging channels
How do I connect WhatsApp, iMessage, or Telegram?
Sign in to Dana, open your channel settings, and choose the app you want to use. Follow the connection steps shown there. If Dana gives you a link or verification code, use that exact link or code in the messaging app.
Keep the setup page open until it shows the channel is connected. Then send a simple message, such as “Hi Dana”. Watch the walkthroughs if you’d like to see Dana in action.
I opened the messaging app, but the channel isn’t connected.
Opening a chat and linking it to your Dana account are separate steps. Check whether the setup flow asks you to send a pre-filled message or code; opening the app alone may not finish the connection.
Return to Dana’s channel settings and check the status. If it still isn’t connected, start the connection flow again for that channel. Don’t share the connection code with anyone.
WhatsApp opens the wrong chat, or Dana doesn’t reply there.
Open the WhatsApp link from your current Dana channel settings so you’re using the correct Dana number. Check that WhatsApp is using the phone number you intended to connect, especially if you use multiple numbers or WhatsApp Business.
Make sure your message actually sent. If the channel shows as connected but Dana stays silent, tell us what happened, including roughly when you sent the message.
Telegram opens, but nothing happens.
Open the Telegram link from Dana’s setup flow. If Telegram shows a Start button, tap it, then complete any linking step shown in Dana. If you use several Telegram accounts, check which one is active.
If the bot is blocked, unblock it in Telegram before trying again. Don’t send your Telegram sign-in code to Dana or support.
I’m having trouble connecting iMessage.
Use the iMessage link from Dana’s channel settings on a device with iMessage enabled. In your device’s Messages settings, check the phone number or email address used to start new conversations matches the one you’re connecting.
If you use different addresses on your iPhone and Mac, check both. If the link opens but the connection doesn’t finish, tell us your device and what you see.
Can I use more than one channel with the same Dana account?
Connect each available channel from the same signed-in Dana account. This helps avoid accidentally setting up a separate account with another email address.
If a channel says it’s already linked, or another channel looks like a different Dana account, contact support before creating another account. Tell us which channels are involved.
I changed my phone number or messaging account.
Open your channel settings in Dana and check the linked details. Follow the available disconnect and reconnect steps for your new number or account.
If you no longer have access to the old number, or can’t complete verification, contact the team. We’ll help you work through it.
When something’s stuck
Dana is stuck or going in circles. What should I do?
Try a fresh conversation with /new:
- In your chat with Dana, type
/newand send it as a message on its own. - Then explain what you need again, including any important details from the previous conversation.
- If Dana still doesn’t respond or the command isn’t recognised, contact the team and tell us which app you’re using.
If you were sending an email, making a booking, or paying for something, check whether it already went through before asking Dana to do it again. A fresh conversation does not undo an action that has already happened.
Dana hasn’t replied. Should I send the request again?
First, check your connection and whether your message was sent. Some tasks take longer than a simple reply. If the conversation stays stuck, try /new and restate your request.
For anything involving sending, booking, or payment, check the outcome first to avoid doing it twice. If you’re unsure, ask our team.
Dana’s answer is wrong or missing something.
Tell Dana what was wrong and what you expected. Include the relevant date, person, or account so Dana can try again. For example: “I meant my work calendar, not my personal one.”
If it keeps happening, send us the example. What you asked, what Dana said, and what should have happened help us improve.
What should I include in a support request?
Tell us what you were trying to do, what happened instead, roughly when it happened (including your time zone), and which app or device you used. An exact error message is helpful.
You can attach up to five screenshots (4 MB total) in the support form, or email them to support@heydana.ai. Cover any private details first, and never share passwords, verification codes, or full payment details.
Accounts & connections
My email or calendar connection isn’t working.
Open Dana and check your connected accounts. Make sure the account you want to use is connected, and complete any request to reconnect or renew permission. Then tell Dana which account you mean.
If reconnecting fails, contact us with the provider name and error message. You don’t need to share your password.
How do I connect an app like Gmail or Google Calendar?
Sign in to Dana and open Connections. Choose the app, then follow its sign-in and permission steps. Check the account shown on the provider’s permission screen before continuing, especially if you use both work and personal accounts.
When you return to Dana, check that the connection is listed. Only connect accounts you want Dana to use. Explore Dana’s connectors.
I connected the wrong Google or Microsoft account.
Check which email address is shown in Dana’s Connections. Use the available disconnect option for the wrong connection, then reconnect and choose the intended account in the provider’s account picker.
If the provider automatically picks the wrong account, sign out of that provider in the browser or use a separate browser profile, then try connecting again.
My workplace blocks the connection or asks for admin approval.
Some work or school accounts require an administrator to approve third-party access. Ask your IT team about the approval message you see.
Don’t try to work around your organisation’s controls. If you need help explaining the connection, send us the provider name and the exact error, with private details removed.
Dana can’t find an email, file, or calendar event.
Check that the item exists in the connected account and that the connection is still active. Give Dana the sender or file name, approximate date, and which account or calendar to look in.
A connected account may not include every shared mailbox, shared drive, or calendar you can see elsewhere. If an item still can’t be found, tell support where it lives and what Dana reported.
Can I disconnect an app?
Open Connections in Dana and use the available disconnect option for that app. You can also review and revoke Dana’s access in the provider’s account security settings.
Disconnecting an app and deleting your Dana account are different requests. If you want help with stored information or account deletion, contact our team.
I can’t sign in or use my invitation.
Check you’re using the same email address that received your invitation, and start from Dana’s sign-in page. If you’re waiting on an email, check your junk folder.
Still stuck? Contact support without signing in. Include the email address you used and what you see on screen, but leave out any sign-in codes or private invitation links.
How do I get help with billing or cancellation?
Send the team a message and choose “Account or billing”. Include your account email and what you’d like help with. For an unexpected charge, include the date and amount, but no card details.
How do I ask about privacy or deleting my account?
Our privacy policy explains how Dana handles your information. For a privacy question or account deletion request, email support@heydana.ai. We’ll help you with the next steps.
Privacy & security
Personal help starts with trust. Here’s how Dana handles your information and puts you in control of your connected accounts, saved preferences, and important actions.
Does Dana train AI models on my data?
No. Dana does not use your personal data to train its own AI models, and assistant requests go to providers that do not train on prompts. Dana can remember your preferences to make your experience more personal. That memory is yours to review and manage, separate from model training.
How does Dana handle my emails?
Dana works with the email accounts you choose to connect, helping you find messages, prepare replies, and follow up. Some email content is saved for incoming-email tasks, follow-ups, and conversation history, so you can pick up where you left off. Our privacy policy explains how this information is handled and retained.
Do I have to give Dana access to all my accounts?
No. You choose which accounts to connect. For Google and Microsoft email and calendars, you sign in and grant access through your provider’s consent flow. You can review permissions, change access, and disconnect individual accounts in Dana.
Can I choose which inboxes Dana keeps an eye on?
Yes. In Keep me posted, you choose the inboxes you want updates from and enable them yourself. Adding an account from email and calendar settings does not automatically switch updates on. If you connect during onboarding, you can explicitly choose to enable updates there too.
Can Dana send emails or make purchases without my approval?
You have the final say. Dana asks you to review email sends and calendar changes before carrying them out. Purchase approval is tied to the specific transaction, so connecting an account does not give Dana open-ended permission to spend.
Can I see and change what Dana remembers about me?
Yes. You can review, correct, and remove saved preferences and personal context. This helps Dana work with what matters to you as your plans and preferences change. Saved memory and conversation history are managed separately; removing a memory leaves the original conversation in your history.
How does Dana limit access to my information?
Dana restricts employee and contractor access to specific needs: support you request, security or abuse investigations, and legal obligations. Internal operational work uses aggregated or anonymized information where appropriate. Our privacy policy explains these limits and the service providers that help us run Dana.
Does Dana sell my personal information?
No. We do not sell your personal information or Google account data. Google account data is also excluded from advertising and retargeting. We use service providers to run Dana and share information with connected apps as needed to carry out your requests.
How can I disconnect an account or request data deletion?
You can disconnect individual accounts in Dana or revoke access through the connected service. To request deletion of your Dana account or connected-account data, email support@heydana.ai and our team will help. Disconnecting stops the connection; deletion addresses saved data. Our privacy policy explains any records we need to retain for legal, security, or operational reasons.
